HDFC Diners Black
HDFC · Super Premium · Diners Club
The best value super-premium card in India — if you can live with Diners Club acceptance.
HDFC Diners Black delivers Infinia-level rewards (3.33% via travel) at a waivable ₹10,000 fee. Throw in unlimited lounge access, free Amazon Prime, Swiggy One, and MakeMyTrip Black memberships, and you have arguably the best overall value proposition in Indian credit cards.
The one real problem: Diners Club network acceptance. While it works at most large merchants and online, smaller shops, toll plazas, and some POS terminals don't accept it. You'll need a backup Visa/Mastercard for those situations. If you can tolerate carrying two cards, Diners Black is phenomenal.
Anyone spending ₹5L+/year who values lounge access and travel rewards. The free Prime + Swiggy One memberships alone save ₹3,000-4,000/year before you even count reward points.
You need a single card that works everywhere. Diners Club acceptance gaps mean you'll be embarrassed at a toll booth or small restaurant at least once a month.
Reward Rates by Category
Diners Black earns 5 points per ₹150, capped at 75,000 points per statement cycle. At travel redemption value (₹1/point), that's ₹75,000 in rewards per cycle.
To hit the cap, you'd need to spend ₹22.5 lakh in a single statement cycle. For almost everyone, this cap is irrelevant — you'll never hit it. The effective rate remains 3.33% (travel) or 1.66% (cashback) on all spending.
The real math to focus on: SmartBuy bookings earn 10x points. A ₹50,000 flight booked through SmartBuy earns 16,666 points (worth ₹16,666 in travel). That's effectively 33% back. This is where the card's value explodes.
5 points/₹150 · 1pt = ₹0.50 cashback or ₹1.00 travel · 10x SmartBuy · 75K pts cap/cycle
Rate shown (3.33%) assumes travel redemption at ₹1/point via SmartBuy. Cashback value is ₹0.50/point (1.66%). SmartBuy bookings can reach 33%.

Where does Diners Club NOT work in India?+
Toll plazas (FASTag works on all networks but POS doesn't), some small restaurants, local shops, and a few government payment portals. Most large retailers and all major online merchants accept it.
Is Diners Black better than Regalia?+
Yes, significantly. 3.33% vs 1.33% base rate, unlimited vs 18 lounge visits, plus free memberships. The only advantage Regalia has is wider Visa/MC acceptance.
Can I get the ₹10,000 fee waived?+
Yes. Spend ₹5 lakh in a year and the fee is waived. That's roughly ₹42,000/month — achievable for most premium card users if it's their primary card.
Does Diners Black work for international payments?+
Diners Club/Discover network works at most international merchants, especially in the US, Japan, and Europe. Coverage is similar to Amex — good but not as universal as Visa/MC.
