The simplest 5% online cashback card in India — real cashback, auto-credited, no points hassle. But changes are coming.

SBI Cashback Card does one thing and does it well: 5% real cashback on all online purchases, automatically credited to your statement. No points to track, no vouchers to redeem, no partner restrictions. If it's online, you get 5%. That simplicity is its biggest strength.

But there's a ₹5,000 per statement cycle cap, and importantly, changes coming in April 2026 will reduce this to ₹4,000 with sub-caps of ₹2,000 each for online and offline. Heavy online spenders should plan for this. The card remains excellent for online spends under ₹40K/cycle post-April (previously ₹1L/cycle).

✦ Ideal for

Online shoppers spending ₹20,000-80,000/month who hate dealing with reward points. The auto-credited cashback is genuinely hassle-free — no redemption required.

✦ Skip if

You want rewards on offline spending (1% is below average) or you spend over ₹1L/month online (you'll hit the cap and the effective rate drops). Also reconsider if you mainly shop on Amazon — the Amazon Pay ICICI card gives 5% with no cap.

⚠️Understanding the cashback cap — and what changes in April 2026

Currently: ₹5,000 cashback cap per statement cycle on online purchases at 5%. That means your maximum beneficial online spend is ₹1,00,000/cycle.

After April 2026: Total cap drops to ₹4,000, split into ₹2,000 online + ₹2,000 offline sub-caps. Your maximum beneficial online spend drops to ₹40,000/cycle at 5%. This is a 60% reduction in the useful spending range.

If you currently spend ₹60K-₹1L online per cycle, you'll need a second card to cover the overflow after April. HDFC Millennia or Amazon Pay ICICI can absorb the excess at 5%.

❓ Frequently Asked Questions

Is SBI Cashback still worth it after April 2026 changes?+

Yes, but for smaller online spenders. At ₹40K/cycle online spend (₹2K cashback cap), you still earn ₹24K/year from a ₹999 card. Pair it with another card for overflow.

Does SBI Cashback give 5% on Swiggy/Zomato?+

Yes, if you order through the app (online transaction). In-app purchases from food delivery platforms count as online spends and earn 5%.

Is the cashback real money or points?+

Real cashback, directly credited to your statement. No conversion, no redemption, no minimum threshold. This is the card's biggest advantage over points-based competitors.

SBI Cashback vs HDFC Millennia?+

SBI Cashback is simpler — 5% on ALL online, auto-credited. Millennia is 5% only on partner brands but has lounge access. If you shop on non-partner sites, SBI wins. If you want lounges and mostly use Swiggy/Amazon, Millennia wins.
